Words, then sentences
Picture games for little ones; matching, opposites, plurals and sentence building for readers.
How Whyzies teaches it
- Each topic starts with picture cards: tap the Afrikaans word to hear it, or the English to hear what it means. Then a round of games.
- Little ones hear the word and tap the picture. Readers match words both ways, pick the right plural (kat β katte), find opposites and build sentences word by word (Ek is nie moeg nie).
- The first 80 words are free. Whyzies Plus opens the full Grade R to 3 track.
Try it at home
- Use one new word a day at home: βPass the melk, please!β
- Count stairs or toys in Afrikaans: een, twee, drieβ¦
- Label a few things around the house (deur, venster, stoel) with sticky notes.
- Ask what Afrikaans words came home from school this week, and play that topic together.
Questions parents ask
Does it follow what my child learns at school?
It follows the themes South African schools use for Afrikaans First Additional Language in Grades R to 3: myself, family, school, food, animals, weather, the home and so on, grouped by grade so you can match it to homework.
Does it read the words aloud?
Yes. Every Afrikaans word and sentence is spoken with a natural South African Afrikaans voice, on any phone, tablet or computer.

Any age. Young children pick up new sounds easily, and the picture-and-sound games work from about 4.
